Bangkok Golden Temple
The heart as well as the soul of Bangkok rests in the temples of this capital city. Your visit to Bangkok will remain absolutely incomplete without paying a visit to the Bangkok Golden Temple, where you will see a record-making and the largest sitting Buddha of the world, all gold! This Buddha weighs 5 and half tons and is 5 meters in height. Bangkok Golden Temple is also popularly known as Wat Traimit Withthayaram.
The story behind this temple goes like this. The artisans in the past had created the statue of sitting Buddha in gold and in order to prevent it from being stolen, it was covered with plaster and stucco. As the story goes, this statue was later discovered accidently when it was dropped while being moved. While moving the plaster was shed away, revealing the beautiful gold underneath. These plaster pieces have still been kept as display.
This Golden statue of sitting Buddha is being constructed in Sukhothai Dynasty Style. It is believed that this statue has been cast in India and was later moved and assembled at this site of Bangkok Golden Temple.
As far as the dress code is concerned, you can say there is an “ideal code.” Removing shoes is mandatory and is possible; rather preferably, girls should avoid wearing miniskirts or meager tops at this temple. The most idealistic or the best time to visit this temple is early morning where you will hardly find a lot of crowd and the weather will be just great!
This temple is situated at Chinatown Yaowarat Road, very close to the railway station. This Buddha statue is considered one of the most popular and also the most beautiful one in the whole world.
